Lydia Holley

I am a fourth year PhD student and Teaching Assistant at the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I received my Bachelor of Arts from the Department of Mathematics at Cornell University in the Spring of 2018, and received my Master of Arts from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Wake Forest University in the Spring of 2020.

I am interested in algebraic topology, and more specifically, scissors congruence groups. I am co-advised by Cary Malkiewich at Binghamton University, and Brooke Shipley at UIC.

I care about human rights, and I care about mathematics. Their intersection is where any person, regardless of identity, can flourish authentically in the discipline that they love. I hope this intersection is realized in the mathematical community at some point in my lifetime, and I will always be working toward its realization. I founded and co-organize the group Symbols of Inclusion at UIC, whose website can be found here
